You can achieve a lot in 90 days, and I'm not talking about a green card (word to Michael😂).
A lot of us (myself included🥴) like to wait for a new week, new month or new year to start living a new lifestyle. We love to say ‘I’ll start on Monday’, or ‘New Year New Me’. But in the words of John Trusler, there's no time like the present (…ish). With just 95 days left in 2021, I propose you join me in what I’m calling the #Lifestyle90Challenge. From Sunday the 3rd of October, I’m committing to changing my lifestyle to become happier, healthier, more productive for me and my business. If like me, you want 2022 to be your year, you should too!
The ‘21 Days’ Myth
You've probably heard that it only takes 21 days to create a new habit. Self-help books and motivational speakers love this message. But it’s not exactly true. Originally, Maxwell Maltz stated that 21 days was the minimum amount of time needed for someone to adapt to a new change. Meaning that after 21 days, you might form a new behaviour, but it's probably not a habit yet. A study by Phillippa Lally found that it can take anywhere from 18 days to 254 days (8 months) to form a new habit. And on average, it takes more than 2 months (66 days to be exact) before a new behaviour becomes automatic. Essentially, the time it takes to form a new habit is very much dependent on the person, their behaviour and their circumstances. But, if you can stick to something for more than 66 days, it’s more likely to become a part of your lifestyle.
21/90 Rule
If it only takes 66 days for a behaviour to become automatic, you’re probably wondering why the challenge is for 90 days. Firstly, my meme only makes sense if it’s 90 days😅, but more importantly it gives us all 5 days to prepare for the challenge. Also, the 21/90 rule states that if you can stick to something for at least 90 days, then it’s more likely to become a permanent lifestyle change. 66 days is a good place to start, but I believe that being successful— whether that’s being a multi-millionaire, the world’s greatest athlete, or the most popular Youtuber — requires consistency. The more you do something, the better you become, and with time, you’ll start to see real results. Time is key. A new lifestyle won’t happen overnight. You have to commit to showing up daily and you only see change when you show up enough times.
Making small changes, and doing so consistently, will lead to big results. The next 3 months could change your life if you commit to showing up consistently.
Let’s Be Real
I could sit here and list all of the changes I think you should make in the next 90 days. But if they aren’t realistic for you, then you probably aren’t making it past day 3.
As an ambitious entrepreneur, I’ve had to learn the art of being realistic. That’s not to say I don’t think I’m capable of achieving anything I set my mind to, but I do know that I can’t achieve everything at once. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Whatever changes you want to make in your life, you can’t go from 0 to 100. If you workout 0 times a week, it's unlikely that from the 3rd of October, you’ll be working out 6 times a week. That’s not to say that you can’t become a certified gymrat by the 1st of January 2022. It just means that you need to be realistic about the changes you want to make, and that you need to pace yourself. Start with a manageable goal and increase it over time. Remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint.
Accountability
I need to be held accountable. If I don’t have anyone to answer to, I will fall off the wagon (I'm working on this😅). I know for a fact that my motivation alone isn’t enough to make me stick to something, even if I know it’s good for me and my business. There’s no shame in needing a little external help to keep you focused. Now that all of you know about my 90-day journey, I have to keep my word. Why? Because if I don’t, I’ll let you guys down, and I don’t want to do that. You don’t have to be like me and shout it from the rooftops, but I do suggest having someone around to hold you accountable. Avoid choosing someone who’ll let you off easily. Choose someone who will keep always you in check. (That someone can be me, just drop me a DM here, and we can start together!)
My New LifestyleÂ
This is to give you inspo if you want to participate, but also for accountability. I know that the next 90 days won’t be easy. But I with dedication and discipline, we can start 2022 the right way. Here’s a list of things I’m committing to for the rest of 2021:
Waking up at 6amÂ
Working out 5x a weekÂ
Prayer, quiet time, and journaling for at least 30 minutes every day
Listening to one educational podcast or YouTube video and reading at least one relevant (business or brand-related) article dailyÂ
Drinking at least 2L of water dailyÂ
Completing my top 3 tasks every weekday using the Deep Work/Pomorodo Method
Reading 40+ pages of a book every dayÂ
Clear all messages and emails by the end of each dayÂ
Sleep by 11pmÂ
Rest & self-care every SundayÂ
During the next 3 months, I’ll be building my personal brand, scaling my business brand, making killer content for both, and establishing new streams of income. (More about this in next weeks newsletter!) To some, this may seem like a lot. But to the superhumans among us, this is light work. I know that if I can stick to this for the next 90 days, I will enter 2022 much happier, healthier and with much more success.
So how can you join the #Lifestyle90Challenge?
All you have to do is make a choice. Choose to commit to making a lifestyle change. Whether it's in one area or in 10 areas like me, you too can make the last 3 months of 2021 count. Here’s what to do if you want to join:
Decide what areas you would like to change and write them down. (remember to be realistic with your goals, but also to challenge yourself!)
