Taking Breaks, Rebranding & Setting Goals | Minding My Business #17
"I took a couple, you know I- took some time off to rest and now it's game time b*tches" - Nicki Minaj
Hey Friends, Happy New Year!🥳
It’s been a while since I’ve graced your inboxes, but I’m back and ready to talk business and overshare like never before!
My Hiatus
So I unintentionally took some time out of Femme Brand Co. last year because of a mental block. I knew I wanted to give the branding a revamp and transition into an agency, but I didn’t expect to be gone for this long. The break actually stemmed from a lack of motivation and feeling like I was in a funk. But it gave me a lot of time to think. During this time, I’ve become clearer on my vision for FBC and started to plan for the future.
The downside of being gone for so long is that coming back feels unbelievably hard. There are so many unanswered questions - Does my audience still care about the content? Have they changed? Will the rebrand land well? Has (Business) Instagram etiquette completely changed???? Part of the reason FBC has been on hold online is that all these concerns have led me to procrastinate. The fact is though, I won’t have answers to any of these questions until I start posting. So I guess it’s time.
Back and Better
In the words of Nicki Minaj - ‘"I took a couple, you know I- took some time off to rest and now it's game time b*tches". When the rebrand is complete, I want FBC to come back with a bang. I’ve updated our content strategy so we can really take the world of branding by storm (more on this in later newsletters!).
The time away allowed me to set some laser-focused goals and really understand what I need to do to elevate my business, my brand and my personal brand. As important as the overarching goals are in giving me direction, my focus this year is on the small and consistent actions that will lead me to those goals. To be better, I need to do better. I’ve taken the time to make sure that each of my business goals is backed up with actionable tasks to make the most of 2022.
OKRs
‘Objectives and Key Results are inspiring qualitative visions with concise and measurable metrics to determine success or failure’.
I’ve been using OKRs to create actionable and measurable goals so that I can track my progress this year (in every aspect of life, not just business).
I really want to end the year with as many goals achieved as possible and I think this is the best way to do it.
Lessons I’ve Learnt:
Taking time out is important
In entrepreneurship, there’s a huge focus on doing and not enough focus on resting. It’s amazing how creative and productive a rested mind can be. I’ve learnt that taking a break is just as important as working. I truly feel like the time out will lead to my best work yet.
Outside perspectives matter
Asking for outside opinions can really help to gain new insight and perspective on your work. As a Brand Strategist, rebranding is one of the things I do best. But because I’m so deeply invested in my business, it’s easy for me to miss things and make uninformed decisions. So right now I’m learning to ask for other people’s opinions and to delegate. It’s not always about what I think.
Focus is key
It’s much easier to work towards success when you know what that success actually looks like. Taking time out allowed me to get really clear on my goals. With my newfound clarity, I’m finding it so much easier to align my steps towards my goals. If you need to focus, taking a step back really helps.
Thought of the Week:
“Without action, your goals are just a list of ‘what ifs’. Don’t just dream, do.”
What are your goals for the year, and how will you ensure that you reach and exceed them?
Happy Monday, see you next week!
